During the holidays a clinic for beginners was organised at Hockey club HGC. This ‘Introduction to Hockey’-day for British School was packed with fun activities to introduce the junior school children to the sport of hockey. The exercises were focused on the basics of hockey, such as grip, dribbling, passing and scoring. Of course, these exercises were incorporated into fun games, such as obstacle courses, ‘British Bulldog’, and 1vs1. The enthusiastic kids had a break in between, having a drink and a snack to fuel up again, and were ready to get right back out there for another round, with even more exercises to get the kids used to playing hockey in a fun way. Children of all ages joined for the Introduction day, many having no experience at all, and others having some experience, and all having the opportunity to learn new skills and showcase the ones they already have. The day was concluded with fun-matches against each other in which the children used the skills they had just learnt. Most were playing as if they were going for Gold at the Olympics.
The success of the event has led to the start of regular training sessions with the British School children at HGC. These training sessions are exclusively for international, English speaking children, allowing them to have fun with their friends and have the opportunity to learn a new sport. The sessions will take into account the BSN holidays and will continue all the way to the end of the school year. Each week, new exercises will be done to allow children to learn in a fun and exciting way. HGC is opening up for more diversity and still welcoming keen international players of any level.
Therefore, if you have children in any of the BSN junior schools and are interested in them signing up, please send an email to [email protected] to get the kids’ hockey experience started.
